Trio of Prominences

3Proms_best.jpg

A dynamic swirling mass of plasma kept spinning above the Sun's surface for over 36 hours (June 16 - 17, 2013). It was accompanied by two smaller prominences also being pushed and pulled around by magnetic forces. They were all suspended high above the solar surface before being pulled back in. The action was observed in extreme ultraviolet light. Credit: Solar Dynamics Observatory.
